Art lovers living or holidaying in the South West have a fantastic selection of exhibitions and events designed to showcase a wide range of local talents across a number of mediums over the summer holidays.
We take a look at some of the creative hotspots around the region this week...
Heading Down South
The Margaret River Gallery launches 'Down South' at Voyager Estate this Friday, January 8. The exhibition features works from artists Peter Barker, Jill Daisy Wood and Kimberly Rae.
"Down South conjures up the idea of a great holiday escape, cherished by most Western Australians," says gallery director Salli Coppin.
"In this year 2020, more importantly this escape has also meant space, safety and freedom. We are presenting these three artists with a passion for the South West, who share with us recent works on their favourite landscapes, places and fauna in their chosen medium."
The artists will be present at the launch from 5pm to 7.30pm. To purchase tickets ($15 inc. refreshments) visit www.voyagerestate.com.au/upcoming-events
The exhibition will remain at the Estate until 22 March, or see the works online at www.margaretrivergallery.com.au
A Hive of Creativity
The Hive Margaret River Art Collective Inc is a newly formed not for profit art group based in Margaret River's light industrial area.
"After a very long, hard year we are finally having our official opening at the collective, where ten local artists are exhibiting works," said Caro Bannister.
Established in December 2019, the Hive has been home to resident local artists who work on both individual and collaborative projects. Indigenous elder Vivian Brockman and custodian Mitchell Hutchins will perform a blessing ceremony at the official opening, with the community invited to attend.
Head down to 24 Auger Way West, Margaret River on Saturday January 9 from 3.30pm. The exhibition will run 9 -29 January 2021, and is open daily from 10am-4pm. For more information visit The Hive on Facebook or email carobannister68@gmail.com
